Effect of dietary supplementation with natural zeolite and a mycotoxin-adsorbing preparation on the performance and carcass characteristics of meat-producing poultry
Author Klisarchi, Apostolia Evangelou Date of publication: 2009 Faculty/Department: Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Science, Department of Biology Supervisor: Dotas, Dimitrios. Abstract To study the yields and characteristics of the carcasses of meat-producing poultry, to whose diets three (3) levels of natural zeolite or one (1) commercial mycotoxin-adsorbing preparation were added, a comparative feeding trial was conducted with a total of 480 Ross-type broilers, from day-old chicks up to 42 days of age. The birds were reared on the floor in a closed poultry house with a controlled environment. Root bark was used as litter. The prescribed programme for ... Read more
Natural zeolite clinoptilolite: a new immunostimulant in anticancer therapy
Journal of Molecular Medicine abstract Natural silicate materials, including zeolite clinoptilolite, have been shown to exhibit diverse biological activities and have been used successfully as a vaccine adjuvant and for the treatment of diarrhea. We report a novel use of finely ground clinoptilolite as a potential adjuvant in anticancer therapy. Clinoptilolite treatment of mice and dogs suffering from a variety of tumor types led to improvement in the overall health status, prolongation of life-span, and decrease in tumors size. Local application of clinoptilolite to skin cancers of dogs effectively reduced tumor formation and growth. In addition, toxicology studies on mice ... Read more

Greek zeolite becomes a reality – N. Lygeros
Greek zeolite becomes a reality – N. Lygeros Greek zeolite is becoming a reality these days. In the Kokkalo area near the village of Petrota in Northern Evros, work under the exploration licence is getting underway. More specifically, the Thessaloniki-based company Olympus is starting the roadworks required under the licence to provide access to the selected zeolite deposit. Once the road is open, we will also be able to take samples to determine the quality of the zeolite directly, based on its percentage in the zeolite tuff. This process marks a historic milestone for the Greece of the future, as ... Read more

A study into the potential for preventing subacute dyspeptic acidosis in dairy cows by adding zeolite (clinoptilolite) to their feed
Doctoral Thesis Author Karatzia, Maria-Anastasia H., Supervisor: Roubias, Nikolaos, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Veterinary Medicine, 2010. Subject An experimental study investigated the effect of adding a natural zeolite, clinoptilolite, to the cattle diet on the prevention of subacute dyspeptic acidosis (UDA). Ten healthy Holstein cows, which were in the dry period and not pregnant, were used. Following the creation of a permanent external fistula in the rumen, the animals were fed for 21 days on a diet that met their maintenance requirements (3 kg of alfalfa hay, 3 kg of wheat straw and 2.5 kg of concentrated feed ...
