The Study on Zeolite Column Adsorption of Groundwater Nitrate

Abstract

Using a zeolite column adsorption test to assess nitrate pollution in groundwater, the study investigated three different inlet flow rates for nitrate nitrogen removal, as well as the roles of nitrite nitrogen accumulation, zeolite adsorption of ammonia nitrogen and the influence of changes in pH value; the results show that at a flow rate of 70 mL/h, the rate at which the nitrate nitrogen concentration in the reaction column rises is slower than at lower concentrations; however, the nitrate nitrogen concentration in the zeolite column has remained at approximately 3 mg/L, with a removal rate of over 95 per cent; Nitrite nitrogen accumulation showed a trend of gradual decline; within the flow rate range of 90 mL/h, it was not affected by the delayed response, with a nitrite nitrogen concentration of 0.2 mg/L; As the reaction progressed, the pH value rose slightly, but remained within the range of 6.0 to 8.0; at a flow rate of 50 mL/h, the zeolite’s adsorption of ammonia nitrogen was most effective.
