There is keen interest in zeolite amongst the people of Trikala
At the packed Trikala Cultural Centre, Strategic Adviser Nikos Lygeros spoke about the use of zeolite in agriculture, livestock farming and people’s daily lives.
The lecture was organised by the Technical Chamber of Greece (GEOTEE) of Central Greece and the Trikala Agricultural Association, organisations that are making a commendable effort to raise awareness of the properties of this rock. The vice-president of the Technical Chamber of Greece (GEOTEE) for Central Greece, Apostolos Kolitsas, and the president of the Agricultural Association, Michalis Georgoulas, introduced N. Lygeros, who, as reported by trikalavoice.gr, spoke to the audience in simple and clear terms… ‘To gain a practical understanding of the remarkable properties of natural zeolite, we need only examine some of its structural elements,’ said the Strategic Adviser. “Generally speaking, zeolites have a specific surface area of the order of hundreds of square metres per gram. Equally remarkable, in this context, is just how porous zeolite is.’ ‘Greek natural zeolite,’ he continued, ‘has the ability to bind bacteria, gases, inorganic, organic and organometallic compounds, neutralises the pH of water and enriches it with oxygen. Its mineralogical composition and physicochemical properties make Greek natural zeolite the most suitable material for numerous and diverse environmental, industrial, livestock and agricultural applications’.
