🔬 Biogas · Anaerobic digestion

Zeolite for biogas plants

A more stable digester, lower ammonia and H₂S levels, and better digestate — with natural clinoptilolite. Bulk and palletised deliveries, plus technical support from Zeolife.

−40–50% Volatile fatty acids (VFA)
+22–73% Biogas yield
~1.4 mg/g H₂S sequestration

Indicative values from the scientific literature — dependent on the substrate and conditions.

Benefits

What zeolite does in the digester

One natural mineral, four functions — all documented. Each card links to an analysis backed by studies.

🧪 Ammonia

NH₄⁺ binding

It binds excess ammonium ions and removes the inhibition of methanogens — less toxicity, more stable production.

⚖️ Stability

VFA & pH control

Acts as a buffer, reduces volatile fatty acids and the risk of acidification — smoother operation.

🌫️ Clean gas

Less H₂S

Adsorbs hydrogen sulphide and helps upgrade biogas — protects the CHP unit/upgrader and reduces corrosion.

🌱 Digestate

Better digestate

Slow-release nitrogen carrier — enhances the agronomic value of the digested residue.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Quick answers

How much zeolite do I need?
As a guide, 1.5–5 g/L of active volume for stabilisation, or up to 5–10% by weight in difficult ammoniacal substrates. Start with a jar test — see the calculator above for an order of magnitude.
Will it affect the methanogenic bacteria?
On the contrary — by binding excess ammonia, it reduces toxicity and helps the methanogens to function steadily.
What particle size should I use?
For gas adsorption/upgrading, fine-grained material is preferred; for use as a biofilm carrier, granular material is recommended. We’ll advise you based on the type and size of the unit.
Do you deliver throughout Greece?
Yes, we deliver palletised shipments throughout mainland Greece and to the islands. For quantities and delivery times, please request a quote.
