Among the pomegranate trees – Nikos Lygeros (poem)
Amongst the brand-new
pomegranate trees
, we chose to place
the ‘stone of life’
in honour of the man
who looked after the estate
, for he knew that in the future
this
would bestow the gift of their past
– those thousandcrimson
seeds
, so that we might never forget
that a people survived
a genocide
thanks to them
, for they endured
, each
in their own way, the harsh
winter and the white carnage.
