WE DECIDE
We hereby examine and approve the study entitled ‘Restoration of the area surrounding the site of the zeolite exploration in the Petrota Municipal District, Municipality of Orestiada, Prefecture of Evros, covering 99,579 stremmata’, as drawn up by the private forestry and environmental consultant Mr Konstantinos Pasvantis, on behalf of the company ‘OLYMPOS S.A.’ MINING AND INDUSTRIAL MINERALS – PUBLIC LIMITED TRADING AND INDUSTRIAL COMPANY and audited by Mr Konstantinos Kospantsidis, a forester at the Didymoteicho Forestry Office, for a total budget of forty-seven thousand euros and four hundred and forty cents (€47,440.00).
The aim of the study is to restore the soil and landscape of the intervention sites following the survey for the presence of zeolite mineral in the area, specifically at the ‘Kokkalo’ in Petroton, through the planting of the oak species (Quercus conferta).

The proposed planting works aim to restore the aesthetic appearance of the environment, provide ground cover, protect it from surface erosion and regulate the water cycle. It is proposed to introduce 5.94 stremmas of oak saplings via artificial reforestation onto the restoration area.
Specifically, the following is proposed:
Filling of planting pits with topsoil outside urban areas
Digging planting pits measuring 0.3 cm × 0.3 cm
Planting a total of 1,980 oak saplings
Creating irrigation basins
Irrigation of the plants
Fertilisation of the plants
In addition to the above works, the restoration of the area will also include maintenance, namely the watering and fertilisation of the saplings for a period of two (2) years following planting.
The works will be carried out by ‘OLYMPOS S.A.’ MINING, INDUSTRIAL AND MINERAL RESOURCES – A PUBLIC LIMITED COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL COMPANY, using its own funds and under the continuous supervision of the Didymoteicho Forestry Office, which is obliged to appoint a responsible forester for this purpose.
In the event of failure of the artificial reforestation (in specific areas or over a wider area), the said company shall undertake to carry out replanting.
The Project Plan and the Health and Safety Dossier shall be applied to the phases of work referred to.-
