Diatomite in Livestock
Diatomaceous Earth – Applications in Livestock and Poultry Farming
Diatomaceous earth (diatomaceous soil, or clay-rich diatomite) is a natural, inert mineral material consisting of fossilised microscopic algae shells (diatoms), the main component of which is silicon (silicon dioxide). After extraction and grinding, a very fine, light-coloured powder (flour-like) – essentially a form of amorphous silica – with a porous nanostructure and sharp micro-edges. Edible (uncalcined) diatomaceous earth is non-toxic to humans and animals (it is in fact authorised as a feed additive by the FDA), but it is lethal to many insect and arthropod pests due to its mechanical action. The history of Greek clay-rich Diatomaceous earth
Clay-rich diatomaceous earth – also known as diatomaceous earth – is a sedimentary rock formed from the fossilised shells of microscopic algae (diatoms). It is a porous, lightweight mineral rich in silicon dioxide, with a wide range of industrial and environmental applications. In Greece, diatomaceous earth is often found mixed with fine-grained materials (clay and/or limestone components), which is why it is characterised as clay-rich diatomaceous earth. This article provides a documented account of the history of Greek diatomaceous earth, from its geological origin and the earliest mining operations to its modern uses and comparisons with international deposits.
Zeolife’s participation in Zootechnia 2025
We are delighted to announce that we will be taking part in Zootechnia 2025. The exhibition will take place at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Centre from Thursday 30 January to Sunday 2 February 2025. You will find us every day from 12:00 to 19:00 at Stand 16, Booth 15A. Zootechnia 2025 is setting the stage for the most up-to-date market in livestock and poultry farming. Specialised companies in the sector, organisations from the public and private sectors, and interested professionals from Greece and abroad will be in attendance again this year with the aim of gathering information, expanding business contacts ... Zeolite for broiler chickens in Ioannina [Video]
Photographs and a video from a poultry farm in Ioannina that uses natural zeolite in the feed and in the environment for broiler chickens.
Diatomite – The definitive solution to the problem of chicken mites in poultry houses
The definitive solution to the problem of chicken mites is to scatter the mineral material diatomite (or alternatively ‘diatomaceous earth’ and ‘DE’ in English) throughout the area. This measure completely eradicates all parasites in the poultry house in a wholly natural way, and the material applied to the area is a natural mineral that is harmless to birds and humans.
New product: Greek clay-rich diatomaceous earth, 20 microns
Greek clay-rich diatomaceous earth , 20 microns New product: Greek clay-rich diatomaceous earth, 20 microns. An extremely fine powder. A natural insecticide for crawling insects and mites. Greek clay-rich diatomaceous earth is mined from selected areas in Thessaly. It is a natural mixture of diatoms and clays in a ratio of approximately 50%–50%. It is a completely natural product: non-toxic, non-corrosive, acid-resistant and entirely harmless. The majority of it consists of amorphous silicon dioxide. In terms of geological conditions and composition, it is similar to the Danish clay-rich diatomites (moller), which are world-renowned for their multiple uses in industry, agriculture ... Read more
