RELEASE Subject: Statement by the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Mr Aris Giannakidis, regarding zeolite and the Hellenic Sugar Industry.
The Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, commenting on the recent granting of a licence by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change for the exploration of zeolite deposits in the Kokkalo Petrotwn area in the Municipality of Nea Orestiada, stated: ‘We can see that the Greek zeolite project is already underway.
This, combined with our region’s need to reduce the cost of agricultural production through water and fertiliser savings, whilst simultaneously increasing and improving the quality of the produce,, offers new prospects for the Sugar Factory, as zeolite has direct applications in sugar beet cultivation. It is therefore the right time to combine the benefits of zeolite with the Sugar Factory’s long-standing dynamic presence in Nea Orestiada, so that we may develop a strategic solutionwith enduring value for our region.”
