Increasing the energy efficiency of pig farm effluent by adding zeolite for biogas production in the thermophilic range – PhD thesis
Doctoral Thesis THOMA A. KOTSOPOULOU, Graduate in Agricultural Science, Graduate in Civil Engineering, MSc, IKY Scholarship Holder SUPERVISOR: Prof. Gerasimos Martzopoulos This study investigated the effect of adding different quantities of natural zeolite on the anaerobic degradation of pig farm effluent. In particular, the effect of adding zeolite on increasing the energy yield of the effluent (greater quantity of methane, energy yield over a short period of time) was examined. Furthermore, the impact of introducing zeolite on the reduction of solids, volatile solids and BOD5 (environmental factors) was investigated. Two preliminary measurements were carried out, which served as a guide ... Read more
Biogas Purification Using Natural Zeolite and NaOH
Biogas Purification Using Natural Zeolite and NaOH Abstract Biogas purification is the most important process for improving the quality of biogas. This research introduced a continuous system for purifying biogas from CO₂ impurities using zeolite and a NaOH solution. The granular zeolites were arranged in 1 to 5 layers on a solid purifier. The concentration of the NaOH solution was varied from 10 per cent to 50 per cent. The contact time between the biogas and the zeolite and NaOH solution was monitored at 15-minute intervals. The results showed that the NaOH solution absorbed CO₂ more rapidly than the zeolite. ... Read more
