The journey of Greek zeolite – N. Lygeros

The journey of Greek zeolite has begun to take shape. And its first-ever appearance at the Thessaloniki International Fair is one of the most tangible proofs of this. The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is now entering the field of exploiting its mineral wealth and is speaking openly about marble and zeolite. This is, in fact, part of a drive for vertical growth, so that the region can benefit from the added value. On a more practical level, we are officially proceeding with the exploration licence for the Kokkalos area in Northern Evros.
In this way, now that it has institutionalised, the scope of the technical study has also been expanded. Thus, even amidst a formidable bureaucratic process, Greece is moving on to the next stage, which is becoming a reality through the realisation of the vision, thanks to the consensus decision. The methodology for promoting zeolite both domestically and internationally – as is done in Australia, France and Cyprus – is therefore not a futile approach, as there are already people well-informed about the applications of Greek zeolite who are now standing by, ready for the start of zeolite extraction from the deposits located in Thrace. In this context, the initiative launched by the Greek Consulate in Sydney for businesspeople is yet another example of the overall effort to develop a Hellenic network that promotes the strategic interests of our homeland across the globe through outward-looking engagement and innovation, which constitute one of the main pillars of our overarching strategy.

Consensus has been reached on conducting research to ascertain the presence of industrial-grade zeolite in the Petrota area of Evros
