zeolite and the future of farmers – Nikos Lygeros

At this stage and in the current climate, everyone is trying, in one way or another, to reach out to farmers in order to secure their votes. And they think, of course, that our farmers are fools and will fall for their attempts to curry favour. In reality, it would be better for all of us if these candidates were properly informed about zeolite – and especially about the situation in Greece and what stage we’re at – so that they can discuss it with farmers, who, by putting it into practice, will reap the benefits. Because there is no need to tell others that you are good; simply do good deeds, and others will have no reason not to believe you. It is inconceivable that the entire European Union should launch the Horizon 2020 programme, which directly concerns agriculture and the issue of innovation, and yet know absolutely nothing about Greek zeolite and its applications. We cannot keep saying that we are genuinely interested in the primary sector whilst, in practice, having no idea of its needs. Whereas when we clearly tell farmers that with zeolite they can save water on irrigation, fertiliser and avoid heavy-duty pesticides, whilst at the same time increasing their yield, because zeolite binds heavy metals, toxins and free radicals. This is the real way in which a parliamentary candidate can genuinely help our farmers and move beyond the empty rhetoric that changes absolutely nothing. Because our farmers are people of the land, and if you help the land, you help them at the same time.
