Zeolite in the Consumer Goods Industry

G. Pavlidis is determined to take the Zeolite issue forward

Regional Governor Giorgos Pavlidis has a packed schedule; as we all know, he works tirelessly, and a single phone call on Saturday morning meant he had to deal three matters: the TAP pipeline, zeolite and the manufacture of Greek machinery, which must now earn the trust of the Greek people. He informed us, whilst returning from Kavala, that regarding the TAP pipeline there are some difficulties in bringing the discussions to a successful conclusion; however, as he emphasised, the whole process is on the right track. Responding to a question about zeolite, he explained that, through microparticle processing, those who ... Read more

Enhancing the removal of arsenic, boron and heavy metals in groundwater-fed wetlands using various mass-support media

The presence of arsenic and heavy metals in drinking water sources poses a serious health risk due to chronic toxicological effects. Constructed wetlands have the potential to remove arsenic and heavy metals, but little is known about pollutant removal efficiency and reliability of wetlands for this task. This lab-scale study investigated the use of vertical subsurface flow constructed wetlands for removing arsenic, boron, copper, zinc, iron and manganese from synthetic wastewater. Gravel, limestone, zeolite and cocopeat were employed as wetland media. Conventional gravel media only showed limited capability in removing arsenic, iron, copper and zinc; and it showed virtually no ... Read more

zeolite and cosmetology – aesthetics – N. Lygeros [text]

One of the areas of application for zeolite that allows for vertical production as well as added value is that of cosmetology and aesthetics. We are already aware of many applications that exploit the molecular sieve property of zeolite, and in particular clinoptilolite. We should therefore not limit ourselves to these applications, especially when they can maximise its utilisation. Clinoptilolite’s ability to act at a molecular level allows us to consider applications – and indeed patents – through chemistry, without, however, suffering the consequences associated with synthetic materials. With natural zeolite, we can remain within the realm of natural products ... Read more

Heating with solar cells and zeolite – Long-term storage

Heating with solar cells and zeolite – Long-term storage Researchers at the University of Stuttgart in Germany are set to test a solar heating system with long-term storage capabilities as part of the “Solspaces”, a three-year programme launched in March 2012. The system is based on a solarthermal system operating in conjunction with a sorption tank, where the heat collected by the solar cells during the warmer months is stored until it is used when temperatures drop. The Solspaces concept can help reduce the storage space required for solar thermal systems and effectively address the issue of retaining heat for ... Read more

Greek quality and innovation – Nikos Lygeros

Greek quality and innovation – Nikos Lygeros When you have a country like our homeland and you wonder what you can do, it is simply a matter of intelligence – or rather, a lack thereof. Greece is characterised by the sun and the sea, which are vast sources of energy. We now know that we have large reserves of hydrocarbons and, through our Exclusive Economic Zone, we can exploit them rationally and strategically. We also have high-quality zeolite, and in large quantities at that; in its form as clinoptilolite , it has a vast array of applications across many sectors. ... Read more

From olive oil to zeolado (zeolite olive oil) – Nikos Lygeros

‘From olive oil to zeolado (zeolite olive oil)’ was the title of Nikos Lygeros’s talk in Filiatra on Thursday evening at the Vorreio Cultural Centre, where the distinguished Greek professor spoke about the properties and multiple uses of zeolite, which is found in abundance in Greece. Focusing his talk mainly on its applications in agriculture, he highlighted the significant benefits it can bring to crop production, as when applied to the soil it reduces the need for fertilisers, retains nutrients in the upper soil layers, retains moisture and releases it gradually, whilst, where it has been used, it has shown ... The new Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is called upon to promote investment in zeolite – Eleftherotypia newspaper, 19 August 2014

By SAKIS APOSTOLAKIS sakisapostolakis0(at)gmail.com They are being stubborn about not making use of zeolite. It is important that the zeolite from Thrace is utilised within Greece, so as to generate more revenue for the country. It is of paramount importance that farmers have access to the mineral at producer prices rather than market prices. The new regional governor is expected to come up against the personal interests that are hindering the exploitation of Thrace’s zeolite – interests which were recently denounced in a parliamentary question by two former New Democracy ministers and regional MPs, Alexandros Kontos and Evripidis Stylianidis, the ... Thracian zeolite – Nikos Lygeros

N. Lygeros Now that we have finally embarked on the process of promoting zeolite, we must publicise it as a product as quickly as possible and ensure it gains international recognition. In this context, we must address the issue of the protected designation of origin seriously, strategically and rationally. Because this is not just any zeolite, but the zeolite from our region of Thrace. ‘Thracian zeolite’ must be a designation that transforms the situation at a local level. This is because Thrace has a product with many applications across numerous sectors. Thus, the Thessaloniki International Fair is a good opportunity ... Read more
