Zeolite in Human Health
Natural zeolite clinoptilolite: a new immunostimulant in anticancer therapy
Journal of Molecular Medicine abstract Natural silicate materials, including zeolite clinoptilolite, have been shown to exhibit diverse biological activities and have been used successfully as a vaccine adjuvant and for the treatment of diarrhea. We report a novel use of finely ground clinoptilolite as a potential adjuvant in anticancer therapy. Clinoptilolite treatment of mice and dogs suffering from a variety of tumor types led to improvement in the overall health status, prolongation of life-span, and decrease in tumors size. Local application of clinoptilolite to skin cancers of dogs effectively reduced tumor formation and growth. In addition, toxicology studies on mice ... Read more

Modified zeolite as a means of purifying irrigation water – Study
PhD Thesis – Author: Dionysiou, Ourania-Nina S., Supervisor: Misopolinos, Nikolaos, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Agriculture, 2010. This study investigated certain conditions that influence the adsorption of B and P on surface-modified natural zeolite (clinoptilolite), with hexadecyl-trimethyl-ammonium bromide (C19H42BrN or HDTMA–Br), with a view to its use as a decontamination agent for irrigation water and aquatic systems. Specifically, the following were investigated: (a) the effect of washing the zeolite with HCl prior to its modification, and (b) the effect of increasing the pH on the adsorption of B by the zeolite. Subsequently, the following were investigated: c) the effect ... Read more
The zeolite-based haemostatic agent QuikClot releases calcium into the blood and promotes blood clotting in vitro
Li J1, Cao W, Lv XX, Jiang L, Li YJ, Li WZ, Chen SZ, Li XY. 1Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, Tangdu Hospital, the Fourth Military Medical University, Xi’an 710038, China. Abstract AIM: To examine the changes in electrolyte concentrations in blood following the addition of the zeolite-based haemostatic agent QuikClot, and the effects of zeolite on blood coagulation in vitro. METHODS: Fresh blood was collected from healthy adult volunteers and sheep, and the electrolyte concentrations in the blood were measured using a blood electrolyte analyser. Zeolite Saline Solution (ZSS) was prepared by adding 2 g of zeolite to ... Read more
2015 Commercial Student Exhibition – Zeosoap Therapy
2015 Student Trade Fair – Zeosoap Therapy We were there at the 2015 Student Trade Fair organised by the Youth Entrepreneurship Association | Junior Achievement Greece, alongside ‘Bee Pretty’ from Glafki High School in Xanthi and ‘Zeosoap Therapy’ from Didymoteicho High School. The exhibition, organised for the ninth year running by SEN | JA Greece, took place on 6 March 2015 at the Mediterranean Cosmos shopping centre, in Thessaloniki, with 29 virtual enterprises from schools across Northern Greece taking part. This year, two schools in Thrace are taking part in the ‘Simulated Business’ programme, a global educational programme for sixth-form ... Read more

Zeolites and humankind – N. Lygeros, G. Hatzigeorgiou
Zeolites and humankind – N. Lygeros, G. Hatzigeorgiou Zeolites and humankind – N. Lygeros, G. Hatzigeorgiou Natural zeolites are formed when volcanic rocks and layers of ash react with alkaline groundwater. They are microporous, clay-silicate minerals which are commonly used as commercial adsorbents. Natural zeolites can even be used in cases of water and soil contamination following a nuclear accident. Notably, clinoptilolite was used in 1986, by the Russian government to absorb radioactive chemicals and other harmful toxins following the Chernobyl disaster. People showed a 30 per cent reduction in radioactive isotopes following the first application of zeolite. In Great ... Read more

27th German Zeolite Conference – 27. Deutsche Zeolith-Tagung
27th German Zeolite Conference – 27th Deutsche Zeolith-Tagung The 27th German Zeolite Conference will take place alongside the annual meeting of the Adsorption Section from 25 to 27 February 2015 on the Haarentor Campus of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. Organised by DECHEMA e.V., it is hosted by the Department of Technical Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, in collaboration with the ProcessNet specialist groups on Zeolites and Adsorption. In addition to zeolites, which historically gave this annual conference its name, the range of porous materials with defined structures has now expanded considerably. Microporous metal-organical framework compounds (crystalline coordination ... Read more
Panasonic Develops ‘Photocatalytic Water Purification Technology’ – Creating Drinkable Water with Sunlight and Photocatalysts
In India, approximately 70 per cent of the population uses water not from taps but primarily that from under the ground. Leaching into it are harmful substances such as agrochemical residues, the arsenic of Himalayan ore veins, and hexavalent chromium produced from leather tanneries. This contamination has come to be seen as a societal problem, having caused health problems for as many as 50 million people. To solve such drinking-water issues worldwide, Panasonic has developed its own photocatalytic water purification technology. This technology uses photocatalysts and the UV rays from sunlight to detoxify polluted water* at high speeds, creating safe ... Read more
When everyone is preoccupied with trivial matters – Nikos Lygeros
When everyone is preoccupied with trivial matters, they are under the impression that they are actually doing something. Simply because they agree with one another, and that satisfies their sense of self. Some want their position, whilst others want to hold on to it. In fact, they speak earnestly about themselves and are held in high regard, as if they were nothing before, as if they didn’t even exist. And they want us to believe that they are genuinely concerned with our issues. Yet our issues are simple and do not concern any government, but only our homeland. For some ... Read more
