Zeolite in the absorption of heavy metals
Zeolite MED® detox – A look at the production process
Where does Zeolite MED® detox come from? zeolite is a natural mineral of volcanic origin characterised by its unique physical and chemical properties. zeolite MED® detox, in particular, is quarried from a site nestled within the unspoilt natural landscape of south-eastern Europe. This area is situated in the Carpathian Mountains and is renowned for its rich geological history as well as the high purity of the clinoptilolite zeolite intended for human use. Step 1 – Extraction zeolite is usually mined in open-cast surface mines. But what exactly does this mean? The surface, open-cast mining method is a technique whereby minerals ... Read more

zeolite improves crop growth in soil contaminated by industrial waste and heavy metals
Soil contaminated with heavy metals and industrial waste is unsuitable for almost any type of crop. However, a new study has revealed that making a simple change could turn things around. Researchers at the Agricultural University of Tirana have discovered that simply adding natural zeolite can serve as an effective method for remediating soil contaminated with heavy soils. They observed significant variations in the changes depending on the proportion of zeolite in the soil, but overall the results appear to have been largely positive. The details of their research have recently been published in the Albanian Journal of Agricultural Sciences. ... Read more
Approval of remediation and restoration works for a contaminated site used for the collection of metallic and non-metallic waste, using zeolite
Approval of remediation and restoration works for a contaminated site used for the collection of metallic and non-metallic waste by the company named “Thomadakis Emmanouil & Co. General Partnership” at the 2nd km of the Chania–Rethymno National Road, outside the settlement of Nerokourou in the Municipality of Chania, Region of Crete, using zeolite. Source: Diaugia
Treatment of industrial liquid waste from the metal industry using zeolites
Postgraduate Thesis – Author: Irini Papadimitriou, Supervisor: Ch. Karagianni, Associate Professor, National Technical University of Athens, School of Chemical Engineering, 2010. The problem of widespread pollution incidents involving heavy metals and toxic chemicals, due to the uncontrolled management of toxic and hazardous industrial waste, has arisen not only in Greece but also in other European countries, such as France, Italy, Ireland, etc.• It is recognised as a very serious and pressing issue that must be addressed as a European problem requiring immediate action. On the one hand, the priority is the effective management of environmental risk, with the aim of ... Read more
Modified zeolite as a means of purifying irrigation water – Study
PhD Thesis – Author: Dionysiou, Ourania-Nina S., Supervisor: Misopolinos, Nikolaos, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Agriculture, 2010. This study investigated certain conditions that influence the adsorption of B and P on surface-modified natural zeolite (clinoptilolite), with hexadecyl-trimethyl-ammonium bromide (C19H42BrN or HDTMA–Br), with a view to its use as a decontamination agent for irrigation water and aquatic systems. Specifically, the following were investigated: (a) the effect of washing the zeolite with HCl prior to its modification, and (b) the effect of increasing the pH on the adsorption of B by the zeolite. Subsequently, the following were investigated: c) the effect ... Read more
Zeolites and the environment
Zeolite and the environment | Zeolife.gr The unique composition of the zeolite mineral gives it significant physical and chemical properties, resulting in the constant development of new applications for its use, making it one of the most useful minerals today. zeolite, the ‘molecular sieve’, traps positive ions, absorbing a multitude of environmental pollutants amounting to as much as thirty (30) per cent of its weight! zeolite contributes to a cleaner and safer environment in countless ways. It is used to enrich the atmosphere with oxygen due to its selective ability to absorb nitrogen. It is used to clean up oil ... Read more
Zeolite and pets
Zeolite and pets | Zeolife.gr Natural zeolite provides the most natural and economical solution for maintaining a healthy and clean environment for our pets, whilst also helping to improve their health. By replacing the bedding we use for our pets (sand, wood shavings or even newspaper) we improve air quality and reduce odours from our pets’ urine and faeces by binding gaseous ammonia, which is responsible for serious damage to the respiratory system of both animals and humans. Furthermore, sprinkling fine zeolite powder on the floor and across the entire surface of the bed significantly reduces humidity in the animal’s bed. ... Read more
Zeolite in livestock farming
Zeolite in livestock farming | Zeolife.gr Zeolite in livestock farming Zeolite is a natural mineral product that has not undergone any chemical processing. It is widely used in livestock farming as a feed additive approved by the European Union for cattle, dairy cows, pigs, poultry (both meat and egg-laying) and sheep. Zeolite is not a medicine; it leaves no residues in animal products and does not affect the palatability of feed or meat. Its use is completely safe, as it is neither digested nor absorbed by the animals’ bodies but is excreted in faeces and urine, carrying away all harmful ... Read more
