Zeolite, what is it, what does it do and where is it used?

Zeolite is a natural, inert, clay-silicate rock, which generally cleans and manages the environment in which it is found. Zeolite has a unique combination of properties that make it a special material, which is used in a wide range of applications. Its structure consists of countless holes (openings) at the micromolecular level. It is hydrophilic, i.e. it can absorb and eliminate water up to 60% of its weight. It has a high ion exchange capacity and can bind elements and compounds of large molecular structure. It could also be described as a filter or a molecular sponge. Three-dimensional representation of ... Read more

Alternatives to antibiotics for farm animals

New strategies and commercial products must be developed to improve animal health and performance, based on their safety, efficacy and cost-effectiveness. The aim of this study is to summarize the beneficial effects of currently used alternatives to in-feed antibiotics, i.e. probiotics, prebiotics, organic acids, phytogenic compound sand zeolites on health and growth performance in farm animals (swine, poultry and ruminants)

Clinical evidence supporting the use of anactivated clinoptilolite suspension as an agent toincrease urinary excretion of toxic heavy metals

Abstract Effective treatment of chronic illness resulting from the long-term buildup of heavymetals in the body, such as chelation therapy, presents numerous clinical challenges, includingundesirable side effects and unpredictable efficacy. Use of a naturally occurring zeolite, clinoptilolite, to remove these toxic substances may offer an efficacious and safe alternative to thetraditional approaches. This study was designed to evaluate the ability of activated clinoptilolitesuspended in water (ACS) to remove heavy metals from the body through urinary excretionwithout the undesirable removal of physiologically important electrolytes. The protocol utilizedtwo treatment groups, each consisting of eleven healthy men aged 36 to 70 years. Volunteerswere ... Read more

Critical Review on Zeolite Clinoptilolite Safety and Medical Applications in vivo

Abstract Unique and outstanding physical and chemical properties of zeolite materials make them extremely useful in a variety of applications including agronomy, ecology, manufacturing, and industrial processes. Recently, a more specific application of one naturally occurring zeolite material, clinoptilolite, has been widely studied in veterinary and human medicine. Due to a number of positive effects on health, including detoxification properties, the usage of clinoptilolite-based products in vivo has increased enormously. However, concerns have been raised in the public about the safety of clinoptilolite materials for in vivo applications. Here, we review the scientific literature on the health effects and safety in medical applications of ... Read more

Efficacy of Dietary Urea-Impregnated Zeolite in Improving Rumen Fermentation Characteristics of Local Lamb

Zeolite or urea-impregnated zeolite as slow-release ammonia or SRU agent was potential in decreasing ruminal ammonia, pH, acetate to propionate ratio, methane, and maintaining low plasma urea within its physiological range.

Dangerously low levels of medical oxygen in Ukraine due to crisis and lack of zeolite

Zeolite is essential for the optimal purification of medical oxygen used in hospitals and in the home by chronic respiratory patients.

Zeolite as a Potential Medium for Ammonium Recovery and Second Cheese Whey Treatment

The efficiency of natural zeolite to remove ammonium from artificial wastewater (ammonium aqueous solutions) and to treat second cheese whey was examined, aiming to recover nitrogen nutrients that can be used for further applications, such as slow-release fertilizers. Sorption experiments were performed using artificial wastewater and zeolite of different granulometries (i.e., 0.71–1.0, 1.8–2.0, 2.0–2.8, 2.8–4.0, and 4.0–5.0 mm). The granulometry of the zeolite had no significant effect on its ability to absorb ammonium. Nevertheless, smaller particles (0.71–1.0 mm) exhibited quicker NH4+-N adsorption rates of up to 93.0% in the first 10 min. Zeolite as a Potential Medium for Ammonium Recovery ... Read more

Zeolite and its potential uses in agriculture

Zeolite and its potential uses in agriculture C. Sangeetha* and P. Baskar1, Department of Agronomy, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore – 641 003, India. Received: 10-09-2015 Accepted: 25-02-2016 DOI:10.18805/ar.v0iof.9627 ABSTRACT In many parts of the world food security is being affected due to declining quality and/or quantity of the soil resource base and climate change. In this context, farming with zeolites has drawn attention. Zeolites are natural aluminosilicates present in rocks different part of the world. Use of zeolite has gained a momentum in the recent past owing to multitude of benefits accured from them. Zeolites are useful in agriculture because of their ... Read more

Retaining nutrients and water in agricultural soils brings about higher crop yields and prevents pollution of water courses. Among different solutions, zeolites, which are environmental friendly, ubiquitous, and inexpensive, have been extensively employed in ... Read more

Silver Zeolite Composites-Based LEDs: A Novel Solid-State Lighting Approach [Thesis]

Silver Zeolite Composites-Based LEDs: A Novel Solid-State Lighting Approach Abstract Silver clusters incorporated in a zeolite matrix represent a promising alternative for rare earth phosphors, organic dyes, and quantum dots as emitters in organic and hybrid organic/inorganic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Compared to other existing types of emitters, they combine an excellent stability to oxygen and humidity with a high luminescence quantum yield and color tunability. This study reports on the first use of these silver exchanged zeolites embedded in polyvinyl carbazole (PVK), which is expected to act as a conducting matrix, as emitters in a single-layer OLED. It is demonstrated ... Read more
