Zeolite in Olive Trees
The Xylella fastidiosa bacterium – N. Lygeros
The bacterium Xylella fastidiosa is causing increasing damage to crops in Italy and there is, of course, a risk of it spreading. This bacterium infects pear, almond and peach trees, as well as olive trees. This new outbreak is taking on enormous proportions due to the size of the olive groves. And at present, combating the disease once it has appeared is extreme and irreversible for the tree, as it essentially leads to its destruction. So, before we get to the bacterial level, it is worth recalling that Xylella fastidiosa is transmitted by insects of the families Cicadellidae and Cercopidae, ... Read more

Zeolado (zeolite olive oil) 2015 – N. Lygeros
This year saw the third olive harvest for the production of extra virgin green olive oil from olives protected exclusively by zeolite as part of organic farming. The first observation we can make is that, of course, there was no sign of the olive fruit fly. The second is that production is higher than in the previous two years, and the explanation is that the zeolite has now been in use for three years and is working with absolute efficiency. The third point, of course, is that quality has improved and acidity has fallen even further; indeed, preliminary measurements already ... Read more
Experimental Greek zeolite – N. Lygeros
Experimental Greek zeolite – N. Lygeros Thanks to the zeolite exploration licence held by Giorgos Georgiadis in the Kokkalo area, we now have Greek zeolite in our hands for the first time, enabling us to carry out experiments and select applications. At present, of course, there are only a few kilograms available until the licence to mine Greek zeolite is granted, but it marks a symbolic beginning that proves the vision has become a reality, and now no one can dispute its existence, however slow on the uptake they may be. As we require material for experiments relating to Greek ... Read more
Rural development policy and Greek zeolite – N. Lygeros
Rural development policy is one of the most important sectors in Greece. Of course, we have become accustomed to hearing about farmers in a passive way, in the context of subsidies, without realising what an important role they play for our country. We have a land with great potential and enormous diversity. We must make the most of these assets and showcase them. In this context, Greek zeolite can play a huge role, as it protects the soil, enables water savings for irrigation, avoids the need for heavy-duty pesticides, reduces the use of fertilisers – as cultivation becomes more efficient ...
