New exploration licence for Greek zeolite – N. Lygeros
A new exploration licence has been granted by the Decentralised Administration of Kavala for Greek zeolite in the Mavri Petra area, near Petrota in Northern Evros. Thus, the Thessaloniki-based company Olympus is continuing its research efforts, whilst at the same time awaiting the final permits to proceed to the general mining licence in the Kokkalo area, which is, of course, also located near Petrota. In practical terms, this means that work is being carried out in parallel to save time and lay the groundwork for the future, ensuring continuity with other deposits. This also highlights the significance of the whole ... Read more
The role of natural and synthetic zeolites as feed additives in the prevention and/or treatment of certain farm animal diseases (The role of natural and synthetic zeolites as feed additives in the prevention and/or treatment of certain farm animal diseases: A review)
D. Papaioannou, P.D. Katsoulos, N. Panousis *, H. Karatzias Clinic of Productive Animal Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 541 24 Thessaloniki, Greece Received 4 April 2005; received in revised form 12 May 2005; accepted 12 May 2005 Available online 28 June 2005 Abstract This review discusses the role of zeolites as feed additives in the prevention and/or treatment of certain diseases in farm animals. Both natural and synthetic zeolites have been used in animal nutrition primarily to improve performance traits and, based on their fundamental physicochemical properties, they have also been tested and found to be ... International Symposium on Zeolites and Microporous Crystals 2015 – Recent Advances in Zeolite Research (International Symposium on Zeolites and Microporous Crystals 2015 – Recent Advances in Zeolite Research)
Article Synopsis The International Symposium on Zeolite and Microporous Crystals 2015 (ZMPC2015) was held at the Sapporo Convention Center, Japan, from 28th June to 2nd July 2015 and had 435 attendees from 32 countries, with 75% from Japan, China, Korea or Taiwan. 396 presentations covered all aspects of zeolites and microporous crystals over four days. Catalysis and synthesis were the two main themes (46% of all presentations) with the others being: new porous materials; membranes and films; adsorption and diffusion; characterisation; novel applications; industrial applications; layered materials; computational chemistry; post-synthetic treatment; crystallography; and ion exchange. There were six plenary talks ... Read more
The application of natural zeolites in animal science and aquaculture – The Application of Natural Zeolites in Animal Science and Aquaculture
The Application of Natural Zeolites in Animal Science and Aquaculture F. A. Mumpton and P. H. Fishman 1,2 Summary As agriculturalists step up their efforts to expand crop and animal production, numerous mineral materials are receiving greater attention as soil amendments and as dietary supplements in animal husbandry. The zeolite group of minerals stands out from the rest, and its exciting array of physical and chemical properties promises to contribute to many areas of agriculture and aquaculture over the next decade. Their abundance and availability have aroused considerable interest in research stations across several countries, although the number of publications ... Read more
Zeolites and humankind – N. Lygeros, G. Hatzigeorgiou
Zeolites and humankind – N. Lygeros, G. Hatzigeorgiou Zeolites and humankind – N. Lygeros, G. Hatzigeorgiou Natural zeolites are formed when volcanic rocks and layers of ash react with alkaline groundwater. They are microporous, clay-silicate minerals which are commonly used as commercial adsorbents. Natural zeolites can even be used in cases of water and soil contamination following a nuclear accident. Notably, clinoptilolite was used in 1986, by the Russian government to absorb radioactive chemicals and other harmful toxins following the Chernobyl disaster. People showed a 30 per cent reduction in radioactive isotopes following the first application of zeolite. In Great ... Read more
zeolite in fish farming and aquariums.
zeolite in fish farming and aquariums | Zeolife.gr One of the most valuable natural products, with numerous beneficial properties for both humans and the environment, is the mineral zeolite. The crystalline structure of natural zeolite gives it a number of beneficial properties, which are mainly related to agriculture, livestock farming, as well as fish farming and mussel farming. However, zeolite can even be used in aquariums or swimming pool filters. During fish rearing in fish farms, as well as in tanks used to transport live fish, it is natural for ammonia to build up, which can quickly contaminate an aquatic environment. ... Read more

Zeolite in aquariums and their filters in Nea Orestiada
Zeolite in an aquarium and its filters in Nea Orestiada. We note that after 45 days of use, the water remains clear. After this use, the zeolite can be reused in compost or in the garden, as it has absorbed the nitrates from the fish waste, inactivated them and will return them to the soil as organic fertiliser. Application particle size: 2.5 to 5 millimetres on the floor and 0.8–2.5 millimetres in the filters
