Greek zeolites and Agia Sofia – N. Lygeros
Some topics do not appear to have a direct connection, and this is certainly the case with Greek zeolite and Hagia Sophia. They certainly share a common context due to Thrace and Constantinople, but there are also practical applications. As part of the church’s conservation work a few decades ago, concrete was used to secure sections of the exterior wall beneath the roof. It has now been observed that the concrete has deteriorated and that it would be preferable to use a mortar containing pozzolan. In fact, analyses were carried out on the church’s original material to find a composition ... Read more
zeolite: a remedy for misery – N. Lygeros
With the granting of the environmental impact assessment licence, we have moved on to the next stage in the campaign for Greek zeolite. And we are already seeing the practical implications, as another company that had kept its deposit dormant has requested an extension of its licence. This is a positive development and should be conditional upon work commencing in the Thrace region. Thus, the fact that a new licence has been granted has encouraged long-standing players in the sector to activate their own. It is important that there be other investors and specialists, who will collectively form a critical ... Read more
There can be no development without entrepreneurship – N. Lygeros
No matter how much we hear about a ‘Stalinist’ approach to economic data, we already know full well that these figures are collapsing and that they are worthless, not only in Greece but throughout the world. Russia itself has realised this, but in our country there are people who are out of touch at every level of power who keep saying the same things, because in essence they have never before dealt with the real economy of a nation. And the reason is simple. There can be no growth without entrepreneurship. It is not through capital controls that we will ... Read more
From the extraction of zeolite to the development of Thrace – N. Lygeros
With the start of Greek zeolite mining in the Kokkalo area near Petrota, Thrace is ushering in a new era of development. It is certainly not the exploitation of just three deposits that will change the whole picture, but this innovation has a future. For at the outset, no one believed the project was feasible, and a great deal of effort was expended to secure recognition of the value of Greek zeolite. Now, however, it is a reality that we will be watching and following closely. For Thrace, the important thing is for others to follow the example set by ... Read more
The Release of Greek Zeolite – N. Lygeros
The decision has been made. Hellenic Zeolite is now an official and institutional reality, as the licence to operate the zeolite quarry has been granted. After years of a national struggle, we are witnessing the liberation of Greek Zeolite from bureaucracy. Now, Greek Zeolite will be able to meet Greece’s needs whilst also reducing reliance on foreign Zeolite imports and, of course, subsequently becoming an export product to generate even greater revenue for Greece. There are more and more of us, all those who believed that this miracle could be achieved even under the current circumstances, and we would like ... Read more

The Passions of Localism – Nikos Lygeros
Greek zeolite is bringing to light more and more issues that border on the absurd. Years ago, we fought to see mining take place in Greece for the first time, particularly in Thrace, so that the region could develop through a resource of national significance. For years, Greek bureaucracy held up this development, with the result that the local residents no longer believed that anything would ever happen. Eventually, we witnessed a shift in focus towards other areas, different from the original ones, but always close to Petrota. These new exploration licences acted as a catalyst and were bolstered by ... Read more

News item entitled ‘zeolite is changing the lives of farmers and livestock breeders’ – Dikaia, Nea Orestiada
Zeolife.gr is organising an information session on the use of natural zeolite in agriculture and livestock farming. The topics to be covered are as follows: What is zeolite? What properties does it have? What are its applications? How is it used in agriculture? Is it compatible with the use of fertilisers? Is it compatible with organic farming methods? Can it be used in greenhouses? How is it applied in livestock farming? Which of its characteristics play a role in these applications? How does it affect the environment and human health? At the end, there will be time for questions and ... Read more
The struggle of Greek zeolite – Nikos Lygeros
The struggle for Greek zeolite is comparable to the struggle for the Greek Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) because it is a matter of national importance. We must therefore set aside local disputes and realise that the battle is not solely a matter for the courts. The crux of the matter lies elsewhere. Greek zeolite is one of our strategic reserves for the economy, just as the hydrocarbons and methane hydrates in the Greek EEZ are. zeolite, however, is more easily accessible, as it consists of surface deposits located on dry land. There are therefore no cross-border difficulties regarding its extraction ... Read more
New exploration licence for Greek zeolite – N. Lygeros
A new exploration licence has been granted by the Decentralised Administration of Kavala for Greek zeolite in the Mavri Petra area, near Petrota in Northern Evros. Thus, the Thessaloniki-based company Olympus is continuing its research efforts, whilst at the same time awaiting the final permits to proceed to the general mining licence in the Kokkalo area, which is, of course, also located near Petrota. In practical terms, this means that work is being carried out in parallel to save time and lay the groundwork for the future, ensuring continuity with other deposits. This also highlights the significance of the whole ... Read more
