The potential application of natural zeolite in greywater treatment
The potential application of natural zeolite for greywater treatment Nurul Widiastutia*, Hongwei Wua,b, Ming Angb, Dong-ke Zhanga aCentre for Fuels and Energy and bDepartment of Chemical Engineering, Curtin University of Technology, GPO Box U1987, WA 6845, Australia Tel. +61 (8) 9266 1139; Fax +61 (8) 9266 1138; email: widiasn@optusnet.com.au Abstract Natural zeolites are promising materials for water and wastewater treatment. This is due to their low cost and their ion-exchange and adsorption capabilities. They can also be modified and regenerated. This paper therefore examines efforts made to explore the potential application of natural zeolites and modified natural zeolites in water ... Read more
Natural zeolites in the water treatment process
Natural zeolites in the water treatment process D. BARLOKOVÁ ABSTRACT In many cases, it is necessary to treat water intended for human consumption in order to meet the requirements set out in Regulation No. 354/2006 of the Government of the Slovak Republic, which defines the requirements for water intended for human consumption and monitors the quality of drinking water. When seeking suitable water treatment technologies, the focus is on developing new, more efficient and cost-effective technologies and materials. The aim of this study was to compare the removal of dissolved iron and manganese from water using the natural zeolite – ... Read more
Synthesis of Na-A zeolites from natural and thermally activated Egyptian kaolinite: characterisation and competitive adsorption of copper ions from aqueous solutions (Synthesis of Na-A zeolites from natural and thermally activated Egyptian kaolinite: characterisation and competitive adsorption of copper ions from aqueous solutions)
Mostafa Ragab Abd El Wahab, Moaa Korany Seliem, Essam Abd El Rahman Mohamed, Ali Quarny seliem, Mohamed Gad Shahien Scanning electron micrographs of natural and synthetic zeolites A. ZN (a), ZH (b) and ZF (c). ZN is characterized by the presence of prismatic crystals of phillipsite-K (3a). (ZH) shows particles with irregular morphology associated with well-developed crystals (3b). (ZF) shows well developed cubic crystals with sharp edges and smooth surfaces (3c) Abstract In this study, we prepared hydrated and dehydrated Na-zeolites under different conditions using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and Egyptian kaolin. The synthetic zeolites were characterized by XRD, SEM, specific ... Read more
Approval of a proposal submission to the LIFE ZEOCOMPOST programme, Municipality of Milos
EXCERPT From the minutes of the 15th/2015 meeting of the Municipal Council. Item 2: Approval of the submission of a proposal to the LIFE+ Programme The Chair, introducing the second item on the agenda, gave the floor to the Mayor, Mr Gerasimos Damoulakis. The Mayor said: The European Commission has published the call for proposals for 2015 under the LIFE Programme to fund climate and environmental action projects. At a previous meeting of the Municipal Council, we decided that our municipality should submit a proposal for the project ‘Integrated management of plastic waste in island and coastal areas’. By participating ... Read more
Thermochemical materials and a pilot reactor for large-scale energy storage – Thermochemical materials and reactor concepts for large-scale energy storage
C.C.M. Rindt, M. Gaeini, S.Lan, D.M.J. Smeulders Eindhoven University of Technology, PO Box 513, 5600 MB Eindhoven, The Netherlands In summer, the sun provides more heat than needed to warm residential houses while in winter the heat demand cannot be met by solar energy supply. A solution is to store excess solar energy in a thermal ‘battery’ which can be discharged to meet the residential heat demand in winter. A reliable method for seasonal solar heat storage is by means of thermochemical materials (TCMs). The process is based on a reversible adsorption-desorption reaction, which is exothermic in hydration and endothermic ... Read more
Use of zeolite in the cabin air purification system of the International Space Station (ISS)
Use of zeolite in the International Space Station (ISS) cabin air purification system According to a publication on NASA’s website, zeolite is set to be used in the air purification system of the International Space Station (ISS). In this air purification system (CDRA), which is responsible for safety in the crew cabin, zeolite of varying particle sizes will be used in future to remove carbon dioxide. The cabin air passes through a layer of zeolite, to which water and carbon dioxide molecules are adsorbed, whilst all other gases pass through. The zeolite is reactivated after being heated and exposed to ... Read more
There is no excuse for Skouries – N. Lygeros
There is no excuse for Skouries. Whatever may be said, whatever promises may be made by all sides, it is unacceptable that work is continuing. We all know that this is not about gold, but about gold dust. We can all see that chemical mining is unacceptable. This whole process is driven solely by the gold market and cannot be considered a serious investment, even from an economic point of view. When you destroy everything, because you ignore everything, you cannot carry on without incurring a cost. Even the use of the police must stop, because this amounts to manipulation. ... Read more
Strategic objective – N. Lygeros
It is now time to move on to the next stage, to stop focusing exclusively on the economy and to invest in strategic thinking. Enough already of this Greek-style culture of misery, where the whole point is how to undermine one another in order to win votes. We are part of Hellenism and must rise above these wretched party differences and disputes. We must devote all our energies to helping both Greece and Cyprus. If we do not have a strategic goal on which we all agree, then we deserve our fate. Read the rest here: Lygeros.org
Skouries in essence – N. Lygeros
Firstly, the unacceptable chemical extraction of gold must be stopped as soon as possible. Secondly, this has nothing to do with any promise, but with the fact that it is devastating for the environment and, more importantly, that it is irreversible. Thirdly, the exact number of workers is irrelevant; what matters is what alternative work we can offer them, and the answer is zeolite. Read the rest here: Lygeros.org

zeolite – Nikos Lygeros
zeolite is a gift from nature for nature and not for commercial gain in society because it is a human act to offer to people who need to live freely in an environment they respect because they want to preserve it for future generations with a value greater than that which they themselves had from their predecessors who were unaware of their existence.
