Zeolite in environmental remediation
Zeolite – A superior material for purifying drinking water
How is zeolite used in drinking water filters? What properties make it suitable for purifying drinking water?
Zeolite in the refuse collection lorries of the Municipality of Neapolis-Sykies
A pilot scheme in the municipality of Neapolis-Sykies to clean and ‘sanitise’ refuse collection lorries and the worksite, involving frequent disinfection and deodorisation using zeolite and aromatic liquids.
Zeolites and the conservation of nutrients and water [Thesis]
Zeolite: conserving nutrients and water. Read the article below to find out how zeolite helps conserve nutrients and water and promotes sustainable agriculture. Increasing urbanisation, water scarcity and the demand for more food require more efficient water irrigation. At the same time, they necessitate the application of more fertilisers. Retaining nutrients and water in agricultural soils leads to significantly higher yields. By the same token, it also prevents the pollution of water resources. According to a new study, one of the most effective solutions appears to be the use of natural zeolite. zeolite is environmentally friendly, readily available and inexpensive, ... Read more
zeolite improves crop growth in soil contaminated by industrial waste and heavy metals
Soil contaminated with heavy metals and industrial waste is unsuitable for almost any type of crop. However, a new study has revealed that making a simple change could turn things around. Researchers at the Agricultural University of Tirana have discovered that simply adding natural zeolite can serve as an effective method for remediating soil contaminated with heavy soils. They observed significant variations in the changes depending on the proportion of zeolite in the soil, but overall the results appear to have been largely positive. The details of their research have recently been published in the Albanian Journal of Agricultural Sciences. ... Read more
Plasterboard with Danoline zeolite featuring Cleaneo technology from Knauf
Plasterboard with Danoline zeolite featuring Cleaneo technology from Knauf NEED A BREATH OF FRESH AIR? How’s the air in your building? Apart from simply being generally unpleasant, poor air quality in buildings can lead to headaches, fatigue and concentration problems. Studies show that we spend up to 90 per cent of our time indoors. So it’s vitally important that we maintain the quality of the air in buildings. But the air in many public and private buildings is heavily contaminated with toxic compounds and unpleasant odours. And the problem isn’t confined to offices and residential buildings. Many schools suffer from ... Read more
Use of sewage sludge and zeolite for fertilising fields in Nea Orestiada by the Democritus University of Thrace
Use of sewage sludge and zeolite for fertilising fields in Nea Orestiada by the Democritus University of Thrace The initial findings in the field were positive and offer the potential for better utilisation of urban wastewater The use of sludge from the Orestiada Municipality’s biological treatment plant, which was trialled by the School of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences at the Democritus Universityin Orestiada. The University has been using the sludge on a trial basis on crops of soft wheat, maize and sunflower crops, and has recently agreed with the municipality to utilise sewage sludge from the Orestiada Municipal Water Supply ... Science breaks new ground in converting coal ash from a pollutant into useful products
South Africa has large coal reserves. It mainly burns coal to produce electricity at 13 existing coal-burning power plants, situated mainly in Mpumalanga, a province in the country’s east. In South Africa, coal power generation results in at least 36 million tonnes of solid waste residue called fly ash being produced annually. That’s the equivalent of six dumps each the size of the Pyramid of Giza. Fly ash is a problem anywhere in the world where coal is burnt, but it is particularly so in South Africa because its low-grade coal has up to 40% inorganic residue that turns into ash on combustion. Fly ash is ... Read more
The potential application of natural zeolite in greywater treatment
The potential application of natural zeolite for greywater treatment Nurul Widiastutia*, Hongwei Wua,b, Ming Angb, Dong-ke Zhanga aCentre for Fuels and Energy and bDepartment of Chemical Engineering, Curtin University of Technology, GPO Box U1987, WA 6845, Australia Tel. +61 (8) 9266 1139; Fax +61 (8) 9266 1138; email: widiasn@optusnet.com.au Abstract Natural zeolites are promising materials for water and wastewater treatment. This is due to their low cost and their ion-exchange and adsorption capabilities. They can also be modified and regenerated. This paper therefore examines efforts made to explore the potential application of natural zeolites and modified natural zeolites in water ... Read more
Natural zeolites in the water treatment process
Natural zeolites in the water treatment process D. BARLOKOVÁ ABSTRACT In many cases, it is necessary to treat water intended for human consumption in order to meet the requirements set out in Regulation No. 354/2006 of the Government of the Slovak Republic, which defines the requirements for water intended for human consumption and monitors the quality of drinking water. When seeking suitable water treatment technologies, the focus is on developing new, more efficient and cost-effective technologies and materials. The aim of this study was to compare the removal of dissolved iron and manganese from water using the natural zeolite – ... Read more
