Thracian zeolite – Nikos Lygeros
N. Lygeros
Now that we have finally embarked on the process of promoting zeolite, we must publicise it as a product as quickly as possible and ensure it gains international recognition. In this context, we must address the issue of the protected designation of origin seriously, strategically and rationally. Because this is not just any zeolite, but the zeolite from our region of Thrace. ‘Thracian zeolite’ must be a designation that transforms the situation at a local level. This is because Thrace has a product with many applications across numerous sectors. Thus, the Thessaloniki International Fair is a good opportunity to raise awareness of Thracian zeolite
. The TIF is an effective platform for action, as there are sectors directly linked to agriculture, livestock farming and industry. Thracian zeolite can also play a significant role in the cosmetics sector, where the added value is substantial and creates a key competitive advantage for the region. Now that we have a wealth of data on the applications of zeolite, where differences in development have been observed that make a real difference, even to the recovery of Thrace. In this way, we can also change the image of the region; just as we have Paros marble, we can also have Thrace’s zeolite. Thrace can develop and play a strategic role through zeolite. For zeolite is also a catalyst for the liberation of the whole of Thrace. Through zeolite, it is significant even at a European level within a contact zone. But the important thing is that zeolite creates a resilient link with Thrace at a strategic level. And we are just beginning this phase now.
