Zeolite at the Didymoteicho and Maistro sports grounds. Methorios newspaper

Residents of Evros, in collaboration with the local councils, decided to make use of the beneficial properties of zeolite. Consequently, last week, zeolite was applied to the turf at the sports ground of A.O. Maistro, as well as at the Didymoteicho sports ground. The work, as well as the briefing on the beneficial properties of zeolite, was carried out by staff from the Department of Parks and Green Spaces of the Municipality of Alexandroupoli, whilst in Didymoteicho the work was carried out by the ‘Kastropolites’ Association, as well as by municipal staff.
As regards the Maistros sports ground, the application was carried out using zeolite 0.8–2.5, which forms part of the pilot programme launched by the Municipality of Alexandroupoli – specifically the Deputy Mayor’s Office for Energy and Natural Resources – concerning the application of zeolite to sports grounds and parks within the Kallikratis Municipality. The application of zeolite to turf has hydrophilic properties, the ability to bind heavy metals and toxins from the roots, whilst also acting as a fungicide by absorbing moisture, with the result that the grass does not emit an odour at its base. This makes the pitch easier to maintain, saving water and fertiliser, and the first results will be visible within the next 15 days.
