New developments regarding Greek zeolite and promising news for the coming year have been brought about by two new decisions from the Regional Council and the Directorate of Environment and Spatial Planning of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

Rodopi Prefecture

Specifically, on 17 December 2019, the approval of environmental conditions by the Directorate of Environment and Spatial Planning of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, for the operation of a zeolite quarry in the Rodopi region, was published on the ‘Diaugia’ transparency portal.

This decision concerns an area of 98 stremmata at the ‘Skaloma’ site, in the Municipality of Arriana, within the Regional Unit of Rodopi, which is to be mined by the company ‘AVGI Ltd’.

In the mineralogical analysis carried out at the National Technical University of Athens on 23 May 2018, it is stated that, in all the samples analysed, the main mineral present is HEU-type (heulandite type II)zeolite, which is an intermediate member of the isomorphic heulandite–clinoptilolite series.
