Seedbed – Tomatoes with zeolite

Now that the seeds have been kept moist to encourage germination, it was time for the first ones to be placed in the seed tray with soil mixed with zeolite, where they will remain in the warmth indoors to grow into small seedlings. We then transplant them into larger pots to prepare them for planting out in the ground once they have grown and become strong enough.

1. Prepare the soil with zeolite
2. We spread the mixture in the seed tray.
3. We make small holes to place the germinated seeds in.
4. Carefully place the seedlings into the trays.
5. Cover with soil.
6. Place the seed tray in a warm spot indoors.
7. As soon as the first leaves appear, they need sunlight, but indoors for the time being.
8. Take great care until they’ve grown, as they’re sensitive to the sun, drought and the cold.
9. We gradually take them outside into the sun for a few hours at a time, but take care not to let them get burnt.
10.  As the days go by, we take them out more and more so they can get some sun.
11. They need both morning and afternoon sun to get used to the different types of sunlight.
12. Make sure they’re always well-watered whilst they’re in the sun so they don’t dry out.
13. The older they get, the stronger they become and the less care they need.
14. At some point, they are repotted into larger pots and the plants remain outside permanently, as the temperature no longer drops so much in the evening.
15. It’s a good idea to bring them in to a more sheltered spot in the evening to protect them from the rain and any sudden cold spells.
16. Water them almost every day, but not too much.
17. When the time is right, we’ll sow them in the ground!
