Tell us a little about your profession Our company specialises in the application and distribution of natural zeolite and its products in Greece and the rest of Europe. We are based in the town of Nea Orestiada, as mining of Greek zeolite – which is found in abundance in our region – is set to…
Some topics do not appear to have a direct connection, and this is certainly the case with Greek zeolite and Hagia Sophia. They certainly share a common context due to Thrace and Constantinople, but there are also practical applications. As part of the church’s conservation work a few decades ago, concrete was used to secure…
With the granting of the environmental impact assessment licence, we have moved on to the next stage in the campaign for Greek zeolite. And we are already seeing the practical implications, as another company that had kept its deposit dormant has requested an extension of its licence. This is a positive development and should be…
No matter how much we hear about a ‘Stalinist’ approach to economic data, we already know full well that these figures are collapsing and that they are worthless, not only in Greece but throughout the world. Russia itself has realised this, but in our country there are people who are out of touch at every…
With the start of Greek zeolite mining in the Kokkalo area near Petrota, Thrace is ushering in a new era of development. It is certainly not the exploitation of just three deposits that will change the whole picture, but this innovation has a future. For at the outset, no one believed the project was feasible,…
The decision has been made. Hellenic Zeolite is now an official and institutional reality, as the licence to operate the zeolite quarry has been granted. After years of a national struggle, we are witnessing the liberation of Greek Zeolite from bureaucracy. Now, Greek Zeolite will be able to meet Greece’s needs whilst also reducing reliance…

INDUSTRIAL MINERALS’ and approval of the accompanying Mining Waste Management Plan (MWMP). Source:…
Greek zeolite is bringing to light more and more issues that border on the absurd. Years ago, we fought to see mining take place in Greece for the first time, particularly in Thrace, so that the region could develop through a resource of national significance. For years, Greek bureaucracy held up this development, with the…

INDUSTRIAL MINERALS’
Zeolife.gr is organising an information session on the use of natural zeolite in agriculture and livestock farming. The topics to be covered are as follows: What is zeolite? What properties does it have? What are its applications? How is it used in agriculture? Is it compatible with the use of fertilisers? Is it compatible with…
The struggle for Greek zeolite is comparable to the struggle for the Greek Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) because it is a matter of national importance. We must therefore set aside local disputes and realise that the battle is not solely a matter for the courts. The crux of the matter lies elsewhere. Greek zeolite is…
A new exploration licence has been granted by the Decentralised Administration of Kavala for Greek zeolite in the Mavri Petra area, near Petrota in Northern Evros. Thus, the Thessaloniki-based company Olympus is continuing its research efforts, whilst at the same time awaiting the final permits to proceed to the general mining licence in the Kokkalo…
