zeolite can help agriculture, emphasised Mr Nikos Lygeros from Moires!

Nikos Lygeros, the man with the highest IQ in Greece, spoke last night at the Moires Multicentre, as a guest of DRO!
The brilliant scientist spoke about zeolite and the beneficial properties its use can bring to the primary sector, and to crops in particular!
Specifically, according to what he said, as well as the relevant articles he has published, it helps agriculture:
• As a 100 per cent natural product, it can be used in organic farming. Its beneficial effects are long-lasting, as it does not break down like other soil improvers.
• It improves the flavour and quality of food.
• It slowly and naturally releases nutrients into the root system of young plants, thereby increasing their vigour and yield.
• Mixing zeolite into agricultural soils improves the soil’s nutrient-holding capacity. It yields impressive results in terms of plant growth rates, reduces root system diseases, and increases the yield and quality of agricultural produce.
• Its use in crops, in addition to improving fruit quality, leads to a 30 per cent to 55 per cent increase in yield for wheat, 33 per cent for rice, 50 per cent in maize, 17 per cent in cotton, 73 per cent in grapes, 48–52 per cent in tomatoes, 45 per cent for kiwifruit, as well as a 25 per cent increase in flowering in carnations.
• Using less fertiliser and water promotes good soil management and reduces pollution caused by fertiliser leaching into the water table.
• It can be used as a growing medium to support the development of hydroponic crops, vegetable crops, flower gardens and aromatic plants, under Mediterranean conditions, yielding high-yield, high-quality produce.
• It captures and regulates all essential nutrients, such as potassium, magnesium, calcium and trace elements, and releases them slowly as and when required.
• Absorbs and traps toxic contaminants.
• Helps to balance the soil’s pH.
• Improves aeration.
• Provides an excellent platform for microbial activity.
• Promotes the balance of alkali metals.
• Reduces the cost of fertilisers and pesticides.
• Loosens compacted soils.
• Improves soil structure, making it looser, which results in much better plant growth.
• Has water-retention properties and reduces water loss.
• Reduces the formation of dry patches.
• Ensures uniformity in crop yield.
• Kills pathogens.
• Reduces or eliminates odours.
• Reduces the number of flies and kills weed seeds.
This was followed by an open discussion with the young people and members of the public who were present in the hall of the community centre in Moires.
The Mayor of Phaistos, Maria Petrakogiorgi Anifantaki, and the new Mayor, Mr Armoutakis, were present.
