Zeosoap Therapy – A student-run virtual business in Didymoteicho
First-year pupils at Didymoteicho General Lyceum have set about creating and developing their own business as part of the educational programme ‘Virtual Enterprise’ implemented by the Youth Entrepreneurship Association (SEN) / Junior Achievement Greece. SEN/JA Greece is a non-profit organisation, a member of the global education and entrepreneurship organisation Junior Achievement Worldwide, and implements the organisation’s programmes in Greece.
The ‘Virtual Enterprise’ educational programme, a group activity for sixth-form students, is based on the principle of ‘learning by doing’ and gives participants the opportunity to draw up a comprehensive business plan, set up their own business, seek funding for their company, produce their own product or service, and engage in all aspects of marketing.
Through their participation in the programme, pupils become familiar with the concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation, develop critical thinking as well as professional and social skills, form their own understanding of the effective organisation and management of businesses, and learn about the conditions prevailing in the real market.
The programme culminates in the student-run businesses taking part in national trade fairs held in Athens and Thessaloniki, and in entrepreneurship competitions in Greece and other European countries.
The Didymoteicho Sixth Form College enterprise, named Zeosoap Therapy, produces handmade soaps from olive oil and natural zeolite, making use of the region’s natural resources, and aims to meet the growing market demand for local and natural products. The products are sold at local school fairs and other events, whilst the business will be taking part in the 2015 Student Trade Fair, which will take place on Friday 6 March 2015 from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm at the Mediterranean Cosmos shopping centre in Thessaloniki.
The Didymoteicho High School’s mock business is supported in an advisory capacity by marketing consultant Nana Zygoora, together with teacher Maria Kaltsou.
Zeolife.gr is actively participating in the pupils’ initiative by providing free zeolite, as well as offering its services in the areas of photography and promotion of the student-run business, with the significant help and support of photographer Grigoris Azoridis.
