Final decision on Greek zeolite – N. Lygeros
Final decision on Greek zeolite – N. Lygeros Final decision on Greek zeolite – N. Lygeros The final decision on the exploration licence for Greek zeolite marks the beginning of a new and revolutionary phase for our country, as, for the first time in history, zeolite is becoming a reality. The approval of the study entitled ‘Restoration of the area surrounding the zeolite exploration site in the Petrota Municipal District’ marks the starting point for Greece. Our struggle has thus been vindicated, as our vision is set to become a reality. Even before the survey began, measures were approved for ... Read more

Natural Clinoptilolite and Chabazite as Carriers for Antibacterial Agents: Cetylpyridinium Chloride (CPC) and Silver
Natural Clinoptilolite and Chabazite as Carriers for Antibacterial Agents: Cetylpyridinium Chloride (CPC) and Silver Abstract Natural clinoptilolite (Cli) and chabazite (Cha) were used as carriers for two types of antibacterial agents: cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) and silver cations (Ag). CPC-zeolites, Ag-zeolites and CPC-Ag-zeolites were characterised using an energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyser and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, confirming the attachment of CPC molecules to the Ag-zeolite in the CPC-Ag-zeolite samples. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against *P. aeruginosa* and *B. subtilis* in saline solution and distilled water was determined to investigate the effect of chloride ions on the antibacterial activity of ... Study on the Effect of Adding Zeolite and Other Bio-Adsorbents on the Quality of Palm-Based Vermicompost
Study on the Effect of Adding Zeolite and Other Bio-Adsorbents on Enhancing the Quality of Palm-Based Vermicompost Abstract This research project focuses on the production of vermicompost from empty fruit bunches (EFB) mixed with cow dung, using an epigeic earthworm known as Eudrilus eugeniae. The vermicomposting process was carried out in a humid environment with a moisture content of between 70% and 80% and a pH of between 6 and 8. Natural zeolite, such as clinoptilolite, and charcoal were mixed with the vermicompost in various ratios prior to pelletisation. The highest cation exchange capacity (CEC) was observed in mixtures containing ... Read more
Biogas Purification Using Natural Zeolite and NaOH
Biogas Purification Using Natural Zeolite and NaOH Abstract Biogas purification is the most important process for improving the quality of biogas. This research introduced a continuous system for purifying biogas from CO₂ impurities using zeolite and a NaOH solution. The granular zeolites were arranged in 1 to 5 layers on a solid purifier. The concentration of the NaOH solution was varied from 10 per cent to 50 per cent. The contact time between the biogas and the zeolite and NaOH solution was monitored at 15-minute intervals. The results showed that the NaOH solution absorbed CO₂ more rapidly than the zeolite. ... Read more
The Study on Zeolite Column Adsorption of Groundwater Nitrate
The Study on Zeolite Column Adsorption of Groundwater Nitrate Abstract Using a zeolite column adsorption test to assess nitrate pollution in groundwater, the study investigated three different inlet flow rates for nitrate nitrogen removal, as well as the roles of nitrite nitrogen accumulation, zeolite adsorption of ammonia nitrogen and the influence of changes in pH value; the results show that at a flow rate of 70 mL/h, the rate at which the nitrate nitrogen concentration in the reaction column rises is slower than at lower concentrations; however, the nitrate nitrogen concentration in the zeolite column has remained at approximately 3 ... Preparation of Compound Clinoptilolite Filter Material and Performance of Ammonia Nitrogen Removal
Preparation of Compound Clinoptilolite Filter Material and Performance of Ammonia Nitrogen Removal Abstract This experiment utilised natural clinoptilolite powder as the main material to prepare a spherical compound filter material with a large specific surface area and high porosity by adding an adhesive and a pore-forming agent, amongst other things. This compound filter material has a favourable effect when treating domestic wastewater. The static adsorption test showed that the adsorption rate of ammonia nitrogen was 58.5 per cent when the dosage of the compound filter material was 100 g/L, the NH₄⁺-N concentration was 100 mg/L and the contact time was ... Compacting Properties of a Warm Asphalt Mixture Containing Zeolite – Compacting Properties of Zeolite-Based Warm Asphalt Mixture
Abstract Warm asphalt mixtures have seen rapid development worldwide in recent years. Zeolite-based warm mix is one such type of warm mixture. In this paper, seven types of zeolites – comprising six natural zeolites and one synthetic zeolite – were selected. As additives for warm mix, their physical properties, such as density, water content and pore arrangements, were tested individually. To evaluate the compaction properties of zeolite-based warm asphalt mixtures, an AC-20 mixture was formulated and compaction tests were carried out. The results show that zeolites can reduce the compaction temperature for both Marshall and gyratory compaction. Temperature is the ... Read more
The University of Minnesota has developed a method to improve biofuel production
The University of Minnesota has developed a method to improve biofuel production University of Minnesota has developed a method to improve biofuel production American scientists have developed a computer-based screening method that identifies materials capable of improving the biofuel production process. A research team from the University of Minnesota, in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory, has led a number of studies aimed at improving the efficiency of biofuel production. Scientists propose using aluminosilicate and zeolite as molecular sieves, either to filter chemical components or to act as catalysts for chemical reactions. There are now more than 200 different types of ... Read more
Water protection – Nikos Lygeros
The water protection – Nikos Lygeros Translated from the Greek by Athena Kehagias Since there is at last, a formal consultation regarding the water protection from agricultural fertilizers, the role of the zeolite must be promoted in this process. More specifically, it regards the approval of: Code of Good Agricultural Practice for Protection of Waters from nitrates of agricultural sources and livestock activity, which is exactly the field of action of zeolite, since it’s already used in deceleration fertilizers. And the reason is simple, since the zeolite is able to absorb ammonia and release it slowly. Consequently, it is a ... Read more
Removal of Pb(II) from Aqueous Solutions by Zeolites, Porcelanite and Sands: Correlation of Morphology and Chemical Composition with Batch Removal Efficiency
Removal of Pb(II) from Aqueous Solutions by Zeolites, Porcelanite and Sands: Correlation of Morphology and Chemical Composition to Batch Removal Efficiency Author(s) Fawwaz Jumean1*, Lucia Pappalardo1, Hani Khoury2 Affiliation(s) 1Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences, American University of Sharjah, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. 2Department of Geology, The University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan. ABSTRACT Chemical compositions of natural zeolites, porcelanite (opal-CT) and local sands were determined by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and correlated with their Pb(II) removal efficiencies. Zeolites and porcelanite were from the Mikawer, Aritain and Hannon areas in Jordan. Sands (white, red and yellow) were from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). ... Read more
